The company was born out of a spirit of adventure. Seeking to help anyone who wants to create meaningful experiences, Storyteller Overland is a company that produces overland and vanlife vehicles. The company motto is “Live free. Explore endlessly. Tell better stories.”
The team is made up of men and women passionate about travel. From artists to engineers to craftsmen, the team is full of innovators seeking to improve the vanlife experience.
Currently, the Storyteller Overland lineup has three 4×4, three AWD vans, and a Mode LT version. The starting prices range from $171,000 to $224,400, depending on the model and additional upgrades.
Who Owns Storyteller Overland?
Jeffrey Hunter, Lee Conn, and Andrew Cooley are the co-founders of Storyteller Overland. When they started brainstorming, they wanted to create more than a custom camping van. They wanted to grow a community of people who shared a passion for road trips and travel.
So in early 2019, Storyteller Overland manufactured two prototypes: the Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis and the Ford Transit chassis.
The new brand and two prototypes were unveiled at the Salt Lake City RVX. Unknowingly, the team had just launched their new adventure right before the pandemic.
In the years that followed, the van life boomed as people wanted to get out and explore. The camper van industry exploded, and Storyteller Overland was part of that history-making progress in the RV industry.
What Types of RVs Does Storyteller Overland Make?
Storyteller Overland doesn’t have a large inventory. The brand focuses solely on camper vans. And even within this class, it has few options. The team at Storyteller Overland does what it does really well.
The company meets a need and serves a particular community. The Mode LT was the first unit and is the only van without the 4×4 or AWD option. The three other options — the Classic, the Stealth, and the Beast — come in 4×4 or AWD.
The Breakdown of the Storyteller Overland Mode Vans
Even with lengths ranging from 19 feet 4 inches to 21 feet, the van lineup remains at 9,050 pounds GVWR.
All units also have a 21-gallon fresh tank and a 24-gallon gray tank. So let’s take a look at what makes each Storyteller Overland Mode van unique!
Mode LT
Length: 19 feet 4 inches
GVWR: 9,050 pounds
Features: The Mode LT is the only van made on the Ford Transit chassis. It has two engine options: a 3.5L V6 PFDI or a 3.5L Ecoboost engine.
It has a 90-Watt solar panel (expandable up to 600-Watt), eight 110-Volt outlets, six USB ports, and three 12-Volt outlets. The bathroom has a gasoline-fired water heating system and a hot water recirculation system.
Additionally, the kitchen includes a stainless steel sink, fold-down table, refrigerator/freezer combo, stainless steel microwave, and induction cooktop. It also features a two-seater convertible sofa bed, a water control system, and removable upper cabinetry.
And the Mode LT has a cargo area with an L-track for plenty of indoor storage. For outdoor storage, you get a roof rack to bring your outdoor toys.

Classic Mode 4×4
Length: 20 feet
GVWR: 9,050 pounds
Features: The Classic Mode 4×4 has everything the Mode LT has. The biggest differences are the 3.0L Turbo Diesel V6 engine and the 4×4 package. It’s built on a Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis and has contrast-cut Storyteller wheels with all-terrain tires.
This model also comes with LED high-performance headlamps and XM satellite radio. The interior and exterior are very similar to the Mode LT.

Stealth Mode 4×4
Length: 20 feet
GVWR: 9,050 pounds
Features: The Stealth features include Mercedes Benz selenite grey metallic exterior paint, JBL premium co-axial door speakers, matte black Storyteller Overland wheels with all-terrain tires, NVADER rear doors storage solution, the Stealth graphics package, a hood spoiler, and custom emblems.
It’s built on a Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis and is powered by a 3.0L Turbo Diesel V6 engine. Like the Classic Mode, the Stealth Mode has the 4×4 package and everything the Mode LT has. It’s sleek and rugged, ready to explore off-road terrains.

Beast Mode 4×4
Length: 21 feet
GVWR: 9,050 pounds
Features: The Beast Mode throws in everything you’d ever need for an adventure. Features include Mercedes Benz blue-gray exterior paint, Storyteller tenzing trailhead brush guard, KC HiLiTES 360-degree lighting package, and boost MODE power extender system.
Additionally, you may enjoy features such as the agile off-road ride improvement package, matte black Beast wheels with all-terrain tires, and no rub fender kit.
Other handy features include fender flares, an onboard air compressor with front and rear air chucks, an Owl Vans Sherpa cargo carrier, and Owl Vans expedition tire carrier with a full-size spare tire. You’ll have everything you need for venturing off into remote areas.
Like the Classic and Stealth Modes, the Beast Mode is built on a Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis, is powered by a 3.0L Turbo Diesel V6 engine, and comes with the 4×4 package.

AWD Drive Options
Each Classic Mode, Stealth Mode, and Beast Mode vans also come in All-Wheel-Drive options.
There is nothing different about the vehicle besides the 2500 four-cylinder diesel high-output AWD. The lengths, weights, and builds remain the same, but the AWD options come with a slightly higher price.
For example, the Stealth Mode AWD comes with all of the features of the Stealth Mode 4×4, like the JBL premium co-axial door speakers, matte black Storyteller wheels with all-terrain tires, the Stealth graphics package, and hood spoiler. But the AWD van costs $194,418, while the 4×4 van costs $188,941.

Is Storyteller Overland a Good Company?
