The History Of Roadtrek
Jac Hanemaayer built his own compact motorhome in 1974 with Home & Park Vehicles Limited. He loved his experience so much that he bought the company and launched Roadtrek in 1980. The first Roadtrek motorhomes featured the sweeping roofline, lowered floor, and three-section floor plan that they still have today.
The Roadtrek camper vans are built on Mercedes and Ram ProMaster chassis and range from 19 feet 5 inches to 20 feet 9 inches. The company has two series: the Play and the Premium. The smallest van, the SS Agile, is a stand-alone model built on the 144-inch long wheelbase of the short Mercedes Sprinter chassis.
Who Owns Roadtrek?
In 2019, Groupe Rapido acquired Roadtrek. This family-owned company owns 12 brands. Besides Roadtrek, which is called a “fitted van,” Groupe Rapido owns five other fitted van brands. It also owns four motorhome brands, a luxury mobile homes brand, and its own line of motorhomes and vans.
Constant Rousseau, who began Groupe Rapido, built his first folding caravan in 1958. The company took off in the ’60s and ’70s as European countries wanted more of what Rousseau and Groupe Rapido had created. Today, the company has factories in five countries: England, France, Germany, Italy, and Canada.
What Types Of RVs Does Roadtrek Manufacture?
Roadtrek makes Class B motorhomes. These compact models feature everything you need. RV News named the Roadtrek Pivot the 2023 Type B Motorhome of the Year. RV Business also named the Roadtrek Pivot a 2023 Must See RV.
The lineup includes the smaller SS Agile we already mentioned, the Play Series, and the Premium models. The Play SRT model has an MSRP of around $147,000. The most expensive model is the SS Agile, with an MSRP of around $196,000.
The Premium models feature power entry steps, a Macerator pump system, an outdoor shower, ample interior storage, two freshwater tanks with up to a 37-gallon capacity, custom cabinetry to fit the curves of the motorhome, solar panels, lithium batteries, a generator, and more. The Play Series models feature a pedestal table, tankless water heater, generator, outdoor shower, Macerator pump system, foldable countertop extension, and more.
The Roadtrek Lineup
Roadtrek focuses on Class B motorhomes only. So when you buy a Roadtrek, you know you’re getting a vehicle made by a company specializing in this type of travel. Let’s briefly look at each model.
Pivot
The Pivot is built on the RAM Promaster 3500 chassis and has a 3.6L V6 gas engine. It measures 20 feet 9 inches and has an interior standing height of six feet two inches. The interior features a rear sleeping area with two twin beds or a king bed. The kitchen and wet bath are in the center, and a bench with a pedestal table is behind the driver’s seat. The galley has a microwave, propane stove, refrigerator, and sink. MRSP starts at $183,386.
Pivot Slumber
The Pivot Slumber pop top allows sleeping for up to four. It’s built on the RAM ProMaster 3500 chassis and comes with a 3.6L V6 gas engine. The Pivot Slumber is the same size as the Pivot. The main difference is the pop top, as the specs, amenities, and layouts are the same in both models. MSRP starts at $194,586.
Play
The Roadtrek Play is an entry-level Class B motorhome with an MSRP starting at $149,786. It can seat up to five with the optional sofa and sleep up to three with the optional cab cushion. It measures the same length and interior height as the Pivot models, is built on the same chassis, and has the same engine.
The Play has multiple floorplans with an option for twin beds, a rear sofa, or a king bed. All layouts have the same galley kitchen with a sink, stove, microwave, refrigerator, and wet bath. A pedestal table sits between the two captain’s chairs.
Play Slumber
The Play Slumber offers sleeping for up to five people with the pop top. It’s also the same length, has the same interior height, is built on the same chassis, and has the same engine as the other Roadtrek models. The same options are available in the Play Slumber as the Play. The main difference is the pop top that provides an additional sleeping area. MSRP starts at $162,386.
Play SRT
The last of the Play Series is the Play SRT. It’s the most affordable Roadtrek model, with an MSRP starting at $146,986. It’s built on the same chassis and has the same engine but is shorter at 19 feet 7 inches. Because of the shorter length, the Play SRT only offers a rear sofa that converts into a queen bed. It has the same kitchen and wet bath set up.
Zion
Designed to allow you to pack all of your outdoor gear, the Roadtrek Zion features two open-concept floorplans. One layout has opposing sofas, while the other has a couch against the rear wall. Both have an exposed center aisle, perfect for storing kayaks or bikes. The nighttime layouts have the option of twin beds or a king bed. The rest of the Zion is similar to the Play models, with a wet bath and kitchen in the center and a pedestal table between the captain’s chairs. MSRP starts at $180,586.
Zion Slumber
Like the Pivot and Pivot Slumber and Play and Play Slumber, the Zion and Zion Slumber are similar except for the pop top on the roof. The interior floorplan, chassis, engine, and amenities are all the same as the Roadtrek Zion. The Zion Slumber can sleep up to four people. MSRP starts at $191,786.
Zion SRT
The Zion SRT is the shortest of the Premium models. Like the Play SRT, it’s 19 feet 7 inches long. The daytime setup includes a sofa against the rear wall, a full kitchen, a wet bath, and a pedestal table between the captain’s chairs. At night, the sofa converts to a king bed or two twins. MSRP starts at $173,586.
Chase
The last of the Premium models is the Roadtrek Chase. Its starting MSRP is $176,386. This unit features similar options as the other models, with opposing rear sofas during the day and twin beds or a king bed at night.
Nevertheless, all Premium models have a 600-amp lithium battery system, a 3,500-pound hitch rating, and a 90-gallon fuel tank. The non-Slumber models have 300 watts of solar, while the Slumber coaches have 200 watts.
SS Agile
The most expensive Roadtrek model is the SS Agile, with an MSRP starting at $195,986. It’s the only coach built on the Mercedes-Benz Short Sprinter chassis and has a 3.0L CRD V6 turbo diesel BlueTec engine. Even with a shorter length of 19 feet 5 inches, the SS Agile has everything you need and more: a convection microwave, refrigerator, sink, 2-burner stove, wet bath, rear power sofa, tankless water heater, 300 watts of solar, 400-amp lithium battery system, and 5,000-pound hitch rating.
However, the wet bath and kitchen are flip-flopped in this model, but the SS Agile still has a rear sofa that converts to a king bed or twin beds and a pedestal table between the captain’s chairs.
Who Is A Roadtrek Class B Van Good For?
A Roadtrek Class B motorhome isn’t designed for large families. The Slumber models are the best options for parents with kids, but the interior space still isn’t conducive for long camping trips with more than two or three people. Therefore, solo travelers or couples will find the Roadtrek models to have everything they need for a comfortable, enjoyable weekend getaway or cross-country road trip.
Roadtrek: A Leader In Manufacturing Class Bs Since 1980
Roadtrek has been manufacturing compact motorhomes for decades. The brand knows what this niche of travelers needs and delivers. Although the interior space is small, Roadtrek takes advantage of every nook and cranny to provide storage solutions for owners. With the pop top Slumber models, two people can have even more sleeping space, or families can now consider a Roadtrek for their weekend camping trips.
