Why You Need a Portable RV Surge Protector

If you’re new to RVing, you might think a surge protector sounds like a gimmick. However, these handy devices can safeguard your RV against severe issues down the line.

A portable surge protector like the Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X will protect your electrical system.

If there’s a problem with the shore power or a power surge, your RV can sustain damage to its wiring. Even low voltage can cause appliance components to melt and potentially start a fire in your RV.

A surge protector is a straightforward and painless way to protect your rig and your family

What We Love About the EMS-PT50X Surge Protector

There are a couple of features that make this surge protector stand out. Let’s look at a few now.

Digital Display

No one wants to decode a difficult-to-read display. The digital display on the EMS-PT50X is easy to read and understand. You’ll know exactly what’s going on with the electrical system at any point.

Five-Mode Surge Protection

Some surge protectors only offer three-mode protection, which leaves you vulnerable to potential electrical problems for other surge types.

However, the Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X has five-mode surge protection for greater security.

Lifetime Warranty

Progressive Industries puts such confidence in this product that they offer a lifetime warranty. If you experience issues, you can get a replacement at no cost.

Update: We successfully used this warranty when our 3-year-old unit started making a loud buzzing noise and was happy with the painless experience.

Cons

The Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X can be bulky and doesn’t come with a lock. Those can be significant downsides for some buyers.

Bulky

The EMS-PT50X, like many surge protectors, is bulky. It takes up a fair amount of storage space. That also makes it easy for people to spot it from a distance, creating a tempting target for thieves.

Lock Needs to Be Purchased Separately

We love that this surge protector has an optional lock designed to work with it. We don’t love that you must purchase it separately.

When you’re already spending several hundred dollars on a surge protector, it would be nice to get the lock included.
