Where Is Port Aransas?
The 18 miles of shoreline people know as Port Aransas is 180 miles southeast of San Antonio and sits along the southeastern coast of Texas. It is north of the beautiful Padre Island National Seashore and provides an incredible view of the Gulf of Mexico.
Being only 12.1 square miles by 8.8 square miles, Port Aransas isn’t huge. However, just because it’s not an enormous town doesn’t mean it’s not worth visiting.
What Is Port Aransas Known for?
Port Aransas is the only established town on Mustang Island. The population of a few thousand people can grow to more than 60,000 during the busy seasons.
The area has exceptional fishing, beaches, and a comfortable resort village life. You can expect the highest crowds during the summer months and the college spring break season.
The town also hosts its annual sand castle sculpting contest, Sand Fest, in April, attracting thousands of visitors to the community.
Can You Park An RV On the Beach At Port Aransas?
Several towns along the Texas Gulf Coast allow RVs to park on their beaches. Luckily, Port Aransas is one of them.
However, you can’t simply park anywhere on the beach. You need to acquire a beach parking permit. These $12 stickers are available at the welcome center, city hall, and several participating businesses in the community.
You must know the regulations if you plan to camp on the beach in Port Aransas. You cannot park within 25 feet of the driving lane or anywhere that would impede traffic and create an unsafe situation.
The town prohibits parking within 200 feet of any beach access or 50 feet of the edge of the water, and stay limits are three nights during any three weeks.
