Hike the Ridge Trail to the Morse Loop Trail
About: After breakfast, head into Borderland State Park. When you arrive in the parking lot, take the West Side Trail to the French Trail. Then follow it to the Ridge Trail.
The Ridge takes hikers over granite outcroppings and roads for about 1.2 miles.
At the end, you can take the Morse Loop Trail, another 0.9 miles through hemlock woods. These hikes can take several hours to walk. Then return to the parking lot to grab a picnic lunch and head to the visitor center.

About: The visitor center at Borderland State Park has picnic tables and restrooms. After a morning of hiking, sit down and enjoy the scenery with your picnic basket.

Tour Ames Mansion

About: After lunch, you can explore the Ames Mansion. You have to pre-register for tours. You can schedule a time on Sundays from 1 to 1:30 p.m. or 2 to 2:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 1 to 1:30 p.m.
Visitors can learn about the Ames family’s history and explore the home’s first floor, including the two-story library. A kids tour is offered Sundays and Mondays from 3 to 3:30 p.m. This tour focuses on the lives of the four Ames children.
Finally, the tours on Sundays and Mondays from 4 to 4:30 p.m. focus on Blanche and Oakes Ames’ involvement in the women’s rights movement.
Hike the Pond Walk
About: Head outside and hike the Pond Walk after your Ames Mansion tour. This 2.9-mile trail is an unpaved carriage road that takes visitors around Leach Pond and Upper Leach Pond. This wetland offers hikers a chance to see wildlife and enjoy the park’s natural beauty.
Fish at Leach Pond
About: If you’re not ready to leave Borderland State Park, grab your fishing gear and head to the banks of Leach Pond or any of the six ponds on the property.
Try your hand at catching bass, perch, pickerel, or sunfish. Then you can head back to the campground or AirBnB for a shower before dinner.
