In 2005, Joe Mullet founded Pleasant Valley Teardrop Trailers. These hand-built trailers were popular, but the 2008 recession led to Pleasant Valley ceasing operations.
However, Mullet didn’t quit. He worked hard to rebuild the company and renamed it nuCamp as a nod to the strong German culture and heritage found in Sugarcreek. With Mullet’s leadership and a team focused on quality and craftsmanship, nuCamp RV has transitioned from a garage shop to a world leader in teardrop and truck camper sales.
What Types Of Trailers Does nuCamp Make?
The teardrop campers are nuCamp’s most popular models. The brand makes TAG and TAG XL teardrops that sleep two and include all the amenities necessary for a comfortable weekend camping trip. The TAG XL is 12 inches wider but has the same layout.
nuCamp RV also makes the TAB teardrop campers. This line offers several floorplans and amenities like a wet bath, galley kitchen, split beds, and a bunk option.
The Barefoot travel trailer is a bit bigger than the teardrop campers. It features a curvy fiberglass body with a sea glass-colored body and a retro design.
Finally, nuCamp RV also manufactures truck campers. There are three different models of varying sizes, but all are built with four-season technology and a European design.
About the nuCamp Trailers
Let’s look closer at the nuCamp RV trailers. The TAG and TAB trailers are the iconic teardrops that nuCamp is known for, while the larger Barefoot camper captures nostalgia in its fiberglass design.
The TAG and TAB teardrop trailers have an add-on boondock package that includes options like Goodyear Aggressive off-road tires, a heavy-duty pitched axle, a heavy-duty entry door step, an aluminum utility platform, an aluminum rear bumper guard, custom molded fenders, and a lithium battery package.
The TAG Trailers
The TAG trailer is an easy-to-tow, lightweight teardrop that weighs 1,213 pounds empty. The tongue weight is only 102 pounds. It measures 13 feet 7 inches long and has an interior height of 43 inches. The sleeping area is 58 inches by 78 inches, and the custom Amish cabinetry provides ample storage. A large window allows for excellent stargazing.
In the rear galley, you’ll find a stainless steel sink, 2-burner stove, microwave, portable travel cooler, storage cabinet, and shelves. Because the TAG XL is 12 inches wider, the galley has an additional cabinet for storage than the TAG teardrop trailer. The exterior of both models also has a shower, and solar panels are mounted on the roof.
The TAG XL measures 7 feet 8 inches wide, while the TAG is 6 feet 8 inches. Due to the increased width, the sleeping area is 70 inches by 78 inches. The length and interior height are the same. The dry weight of the TAG XL is 1,340 pounds, and the hitch weight is 123 pounds.
The TAB Trailers
The TAB teardrop camper line offers more options. The TAB 320 S has a 2.3 cubic-foot 12v refrigerator, 2-burner stove, stainless steel sink, expandable split bed, and wet bath with a cassette toilet and built-in sink. Whereas the TAG trailers have a rear kitchen, everything in the TAB 320 S is inside the camper. The TAB 320 S has a length of 15 feet 3 inches, a dry weight of 1,993 pounds, a tongue weight of 164 pounds, and an interior height of 69 inches.
The TAB CS-S is the same size as the TAB 320 S, but the weights are a bit lighter, with a dry weight of 1,907 pounds and tongue weight of 142 pounds. Its interior features the same amenities as the TAB 320 S but a smaller 1.7 cubic-foot 12v refrigerator. However, the kitchen is in the rear hatch. Campers also enjoy a full bed or split bed option in this model.
Finally, the TAB 400 is nuCamp RV’s largest teardrop camper. It features a queen-size bed, hidden bunk, dinette, galley kitchen, and wet bath. This is the only model with a dedicated sleeping area that doesn’t transition into an eating area. The TAB 400 is 18 feet 3 inches long with a dry weight of 2,831 pounds. Its interior height is 79 inches, and its tongue weight is 390 pounds.
The Barefoot Camper
The nostalgic Barefoot camper makes you feel like you’re at the beach with its sea glass color and bright interior. The interior features a booth dinette that converts to a large sleeping space. The retro-chic design includes butcher block countertops and cool interior graphics. There’s also a wet bath, overhead cabinetry, stainless steel sink, 2-burner stove, 12v refrigerator, 3-bottle wine rack, and retractable showerhead for indoor/outdoor use.
The nuCamp RV Barefoot camper is 16 feet 7 inches long, has a dry weight of 2,109 pounds, and has a tongue weight of 215 pounds. The sleeping area measures 69 by 71 inches, and the interior height is 73 inches.
About the nuCamp Cirrus Truck Campers
There are three nuCamp Cirrus truck campers: the 620, 820, and 920. The Cirrus 620 truck camper is engineered for a half-ton truck. It has a dry weight of 1,673 pounds and an overall length of 12 feet 8 inches. The interior height is 76 inches.
The 620 floor plan has a 60-by-76-inch primary sleeping area. A secondary sleeping area measures 30-by-78 inches. The interior also has a 4.6 cubic-foot 12v refrigerator, 2-burner stove, stainless steel sink, Nautilus water management system, adjustable table, cassette toilet, and booth dinette.
The nuCamp Cirrus 820 truck camper is larger and designed to fit a 3/4-ton or a 1-ton short-bed truck. It has a dry weight of 3,045 pounds and an overall length of 17 feet 5 inches. The interior height is 78 inches.
This floor plan has a 60-by-78-inch primary and a 37-by-69-inch secondary sleeping area. The full booth dinette converts to this second sleeping space. The interior also has a 4.6 cubic-foot 12v refrigerator, 2-burner stove, farmhouse sink, Nautilus water management system, 19-inch TV, adjustable table, convection microwave, and medicine cabinet.
Finally, the largest of the Cirrus truck campers is the 920. Designed for long-bed 1-ton trucks, the Cirrus 920 is engineered to run on lithium batteries and solar reserves. But if you prefer propane or a generator, you also have those options. How Much Is A nuCamp RV?
The MSRP for a 2024 TAG teardrop trailer is around $14,000. A TAG XL unit costs $18,000-29,000. The 2024 TAB models will vary from $38,000-50,000 depending on the unit and add-ons. Some of these units will come with the Boondock package, which increases the price. Remember that these are MSRP, not the prices you’ll pay for a nuCamp RV trailer.
The retro Barefoot trailer has an MSRP of around $42,000. The Cirrus truck campers vary because of the different models. The Cirrus 620 costs around $40,000, while the 820 costs around $45,000. The Cirrus 920 is yet to be released.
