About Jayco
In 1968, Lloyd J. Bontrager started a company in Middlebury, Indiana. His first trailer was a fold-down camping trailer that most people call a pop-up or tent trailer. However, the Bontrager family listened to customer demands and expanded their offering.
Today, you’ll find Jayco travel trailers, fifth wheels, and motorhomes. In addition, they’ve purchased many companies over the past 50-plus years. Brands like Entegra Coach, Starcraft RV, and Highland Ridge are a part of the Jayco family of brands. They’ve grown into one of the largest RV manufacturers in the industry.
Unfortunately, in 1985, Lloyd Bontrager and his son, Wendell, were tragically killed in a plane crash on Easter Sunday. Bertha, Lloyd’s wife, took over as the chairman of the board, and his two sons, Wilbur and Derald, would later take ownership positions.
The company remained in the family until another industry giant purchased it in July 2016. Thor Industries purchased the company for an astounding $576 million.
About the Jayco Eagle
The Jayco Eagle fifth wheel combines luxury with outdoor living. It comes loaded with all the comforts of home but is perfect for spending time in nature. With a 15K whisper quiet air conditioner, 22-inch griddle, and high-quality construction, the Jayco Eagle is an excellent choice.
With lengths ranging from 32’10 to 43’4” and various floor plans, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re a couple looking to explore on the weekends or a family looking for a cross-country road trip, the Jayco Eagle is an excellent fifth wheel.
Jayco knows what customers look for and need in a camper. Not only are they well-built, but they also look good. Jayco was one of the first manufacturers to adjust to the demand for lighter interiors. Many of their units substitute the dark stained wood with white cabinetry to brighten the space. These simple adjustments make it feel more like a home than a camper.
Where Is the Jayco Eagle Made?
The Jayco Eagle is manufactured at Jayco’s Middlebury, Indiana campus. They have a variety of plants on their campus that crank out several different models, including the Eagle. However, they have a plan in Twin Falls, Idaho, to produce RVs for the country’s western region.
Their Middlebury location is just down the road from Elkhart, Indiana, which is the home to almost every major brand in the RV industry. This allows them to form close partnerships with these brands and avoid shipping delays on essential equipment and parts during manufacturing.
The Jayco Eagle Fifth Wheel Lineup
There are a dozen floor plans to consider when shopping for your rig. Trying to sort out the pros and cons of each model can be challenging. Let’s look at the specs and some key features and qualities of each model.
Jayco Eagle 28.5RSTS
MSRP: $72,215
Sleeps: 6
Length: 32’10”
Weight: 9,520 lbs.
Features: The Jayco Eagle 28.5RSTS features a massive rear living space that looks even larger with the opposing slides. When walking in, you first notice the large island and primary living space to your left. With theater seating and a tri-fold sofa, everyone will have a place to sit.
If you turn to the right and head up the stairs, the bathroom is on your left, and the bedroom is straight ahead. We love that the bedroom has its own entrance to the bathroom. Additionally, the outside kitchen comes with a fridge, prepped for a TV, and a quick connection to make connecting your favorite propane grill or griddle easy.
Jayco Eagle 29.5BHDS
MSRP: $72,152
Sleeps: 10
Length: 34’7”
Weight: 9,540 lbs.
Features: The Jayco Eagle 29.5BHDS sleeps up to 10 and is the perfect option for those with a larger family. The bunkhouse at the rear features double bunks and a spot for individual TVs in each bunk. Another benefit of choosing the Jayco Eagle 29.5BHDS is the massive walk-in pantry for storing food and other essentials you’ll need during your trip.
Unfortunately, while the Jayco Eagle 29.5BHDS has plenty of sleeping space, seating options are lacking. With only a single tri-fold sofa and dinette, finding a place to watch a movie or TV will be challenging. It also offers minimal counter space, making it difficult to prepare meals for a large group.
Jayco Eagle 29.5BHOK
MSRP: $72,402
Sleeps: 10
Length: 35’5”
Weight: 9,585 lbs.
Features: The Jayco Eagle 29.5BHOK features a similar bunkhouse layout to the 29.5BHDS, but with a slightly different arrangement for the bunks. However, instead of two large bunks, it’s three triple bunks stacked on each other. The opposing wall to the bunks houses the outside kitchen, which features a fridge, LP quick connect, and easy access to hot and cold water.
Like the 29.5BHDS, the Jayco Eagle 29.5BHOK needs more meaningful sitting and counter space. Additionally, with only a single bathroom, it will get crowded if you’re sleeping 10 in this unit. Luckily it can store 82 gallons of gray water and 45 gallons of black. You’ll need every gallon, especially if you don’t have access to a sewer connection.
Jayco Eagle 30.5RSOK
MSRP: $75,368
Sleeps: 4
Length: 33’10”
Weight: 9,720 lbs.
Features: If you do not need a lot of sleeping space, the Jayco Eagle 30.5RSOK is an excellent option. It’s almost 34′ long and has sleeping space for four. The ample living space provides plenty of room for everyone to move around and spread out when stuck inside. The island offers a generous amount of room for meal prep and makes it easy to tackle the dirty dishes at the end of the day.
The bedroom features a queen bed and three wardrobe closets. The fourth storage space in the bedroom is a massive wardrobe or linen closet. This large closet is where you’ll find the washer and dryer connections. Whether you’re full-timing or a weekender, having a washer and dryer in your rig can be incredibly convenient.
Jayco Eagle 317RLOK
MSRP: $80,466
Sleeps: 6
Length: 36’8”
Weight: 10,870 lbs.
Features: The Jayco Eagle 317RLOK is another rear-living option that offers a generous amount of seating and counter space. With theater seating, a tri-fold sofa, and a free-standing table and chairs, it feels homey when you step inside. The 16 cubic feet 12-volt refrigerator is a great addition and keeps your food and drinks fresh.
In the master bedroom, Jayco has tucked a king bed into one of the unit’s three slides. The front cap space features a large walk-in closet with additional closet spaces on both sides. However, these spaces in the Jayco Eagle 317RLOK are home to the washer and dryer connections.
Jayco Eagle 319MLOK
MSRP: $83,414
Sleeps: 6
Length: 36’7”
Weight: 10,940 lbs.
Features: The Jayco Eagle 319MLOK features one of our favorite layouts of any Jayco Eagle. It uses a rear kitchen layout with the sink tucked into the corner. This provides a unique angle and view while you’re doing dishes and cleaning up at the end of the day.
We also love that the massive bar in the middle of the room doubles as seating and serving space. While only sleeping six, the Jayco Eagle 319MLOK has plenty of room inside for everyone to sit and move about the RV.
Additionally, it features the same king bed layout as several other models, including the massive walk-in closet in the front cap space. A ceiling fan hanging over the living room adds a more residential look and feel to the unit.
Jayco Eagle 31MB
MSRP: $84,593
Sleeps: 7
Length: 37’6”
Weight: 10,690 lbs.
Features: The Jayco Eagle 31MB is a mid-bunk layout with the bunkhouse being one of the first things you see when you walk into the mid-entryway. This is an excellent option for families that want to give kids a dedicated space. The bunkhouse has two separate entrances to avoid feeling overly boxy and closed in.
Additionally, the main living area has opposing slides, one of which houses a massive theater sofa. Another unique design of this rig is the rear dinette. You’ll have a view out the back of your rig as you sit down to enjoy a meal, a game, or a drink.
Jayco Eagle 321RSTS
MSRP: $79,685
Sleeps: 6
Length: 36’8”
Weight: 10,835 lbs.
Features: The Jayco Eagle 321RSTS crams a lot into its 36’8”. It is a rear living concept with the theater seating tucked into one of the slides and the tri-fold sofa lining the back wall of the rig. A large island houses a deep sink and gives the chef in your rig room to work their magic.
If you head up the stairs, the bathroom is on your left. It’s small and feels tight, but it has everything you’d need out of a bathroom in your RV. Continuing, you’ll enter the bedroom with a king bed and large walk-in closet. Like the many rigs in this lineup, it features the washer and dryer prep spaces on opposite sides of the closet in the front cap.
Jayco Eagle 335RDOK
MSRP: $81,750
Sleeps: 6
Length: 37’11”
Weight: 10,855 lbs.
Features: The Jayco Eagle 335RDOK takes rear living to the extreme. It has two tri-fold sofas and a set of theater seats in the shape of a U to surround the television. This creates distinct spaces between the living and dining rooms. We like this as it provides a more residential look and feel and what you’d expect in a small studio apartment.
Additionally, the kitchen area offers a pantry, a 16-cubic-foot fridge, and plenty of counter space on both sides of the sink. The front half of the rig is almost identical to other rigs in the Eagle lineup, with the smaller bathroom and king bed with a walk-in closet. The back half of this rig is where this unit shines.
Jayco Eagle 355MBQS
MSRP: $86,882
Sleeps: 10
Length: 42’4”
Weight: 12,830 lbs.
Features: The Jayco Eagle 355MBQS is for families looking for lots of space for everyone. It has a layout similar to the 31MB but a loft above the mid-bunk room. This bunkhouse space is the perfect option for a playroom, office, or school area for those looking to full-time in this rig. The rear living room features a standard layout with an island, theater seating, and a tri-fold sofa.
One feature we like about the Jayco Eagle 355MBQS is a coat closet or additional pantry space when you enter. Those who full-time or camp during cooler temperatures often struggle to find a place to hang coats and other winter gear. Luckily, Jayco maximizes its use of space and includes this smaller closet for these exact reasons.
Jayco Eagle 360DBOK
MSRP: $84,006
Sleeps: 8
Length: 43’4”
Weight: 12,510 lbs.
Features: The Jayco Eagle 360DBOK is the longer rig in the Eagle lineup. However, you’ll appreciate all 43’4″ of this beauty if you’re a large family. The rear bunkhouse has a dedicated half bathroom, providing kids plenty of space and privacy. Having a door makes it easy for kids to rest during the day and parents to enjoy some quiet time after a day of adventuring.
However, the living space only has a single theater seating, which seems odd for a unit that sleeps eight. The large island and hutch provide plenty of room to prepare meals and ensure you have room for your favorite coffee maker. This unit can be a winner for those families that spend most of their time outdoors and simply need sleeping space for everyone to rest.
Jayco Eagle 370FBTS
MSRP: $84,593
Sleeps: 6
Length: 40’10”
Weight: 11,945 lbs.
Features: The final RV in the Jayco Eagle lineup is the Jayco Eagle 370FBTS. While the living space isn’t anything unique, this unit is one of the rare floor plans with a half bath in the main living area. This is convenient for guests without walking through the master bedroom to access the gigantic bathroom at the front of the rig.
While Jayco still uses the front cap space to house a walk-in closet, it opens up the bathroom with a massive countertop and shower. While it sleeps six, this is an excellent option for couples looking for adventure. You’ll have plenty of room in the bedroom and bathroom for two while offering ample seating space and a half bath when entertaining guests.
