If you’re looking for a combination of tent camping and car camping, you might want to check out the Ford Maverick camper.
The Ford Maverick is an affordable light-duty pick-up truck, and the platform camper is like a tent installed in the truck bed.
It’s a simple setup with just a foam mattress inside, but when combined with the off-road capabilities of the Ford Maverick, this duo can take you practically anywhere.
We delve deeper into this camper and discover why this is so cool. Let’s dive in!
About the Ford Maverick
The 2023 Ford Maverick offers many ways to personalize your vehicle to suit your needs, whether you need the tow or off-road package, hybrid engine, or EcoBoost.
You can dress it up with the black appearance package while still knowing the truck is “built Ford tough.”
The Ford Maverick is also a budget-friendly truck with a starting price of $22,595 for the XL model.
Models
There are three models within the Ford Maverick camper line: the XL, the XLT, and the Lariat. They have a starting price ranging from $22,595 to $28,355, depending on the trim. Maximum seating for all three models is five people.
Each model comes with a 2.5L FHEV (Hybrid) engine with the option to install the 2.0L EcoBoost engine instead. All three trims come with front bucket seats and a full bench rear folding seatback with flip-up seat cushions.
The XLT and Lariat models have the option to upgrade to heated seats. These two models can also upgrade the standard black urethane steering wheel to a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel and the standard mirrors to heated glass mirrors.
The XL comes with a black mesh grille, the XLT has a gray grille bar, and the Lariat comes with a silver grille bar. The tailgate manually locks on the XL but has power locks on the XLT and Lariat trims.
Those two upgraded trims also come with the SecuriCode keyless-entry keypad on the driver’s side.
Specs
The hybrid models have a 13.8-gallon gas tank, while the EcoBoost models have a 16.5-gallon gas tank. Although the standard models are front-wheel drive, the option to upgrade to all-wheel drive is available.
The Ford Maverick XL and XLT have a payload capacity of 1,500 pounds and come with P225/65R 17-inch A/S BSW tires. The Ford Maverick Lariat has the same payload capacity but larger P225/60R 18-inch A/S BSW tires. Maximum towing with any of the three trims is 4,000 pounds.
Off-Road Capabilities
The available Ford Maverick FX4 Off-Road Package includes 17-inch unique aluminum wheels, A/T tires, hill descent control, skid plates, tuned shocks, mud and ruts driving mode, and more.
Not only is the exterior better equipped for off-road traveling, but this package also includes a heavy-duty radiator and engine fan. You can rest assured that the extra cooling will keep the engine up and running.
The off-road package requires the 2.0L EcoBoost engine and all-wheel drive upgrade.
About the Ford Maverick Camper
Go Fast Campers, also known as GFC, has created a camper just for the Ford Maverick.
With a starting cost of $7,700, this camper is available for delivery and installation at the five GFC locations: Belgrade, Mont.; Vista, Calif.; Orange, Calif.; Sacramento, Calif.; and Denver, Colo.
Size
The entire camping unit fits inside the Maverick’s truck bed and weighs only 275 pounds. This is far from the 1,500 maximum payload capacity.
The platform camper has a 7.5-foot-tall pop-up living area and a 50-inch by 90-inch sleeping surface. The camper adds 6.5 inches to the Ford Maverick’s overall height when closed.

Sleeping Capacity
A standard queen bed measures 60 inches by 80 inches. So the 50-inch by 90-inch sleeping surface will comfortably sleep two adults.
It’s possible for a parent and two children to also enjoy a fun camping adventure together in the Ford Maverick camper.
Features
The 50-inch by 90-inch sleeping surface comes with a 2-inch dual-density mattress. You can configure your camper with no windows, which improves security, keeps the camper cooler, and provides more privacy.
But you can also request just a front window, a back window, or both front and back windows if you’d like some natural light to enter the platform camper.
The camper comes with a giant screened door at the back of the tent, but you can also add side doors for a panoramic view. Another custom feature is the aluminum side panels. They’re powder coated in your choice of black, white, red, bronze, metallic gray, silver, gray, green, or blue.
Finally, the roof of the Ford Maverick camper is a translucent composite material that reflects the sun to keep it cool.
Can You Sleep in the Back of a Ford Maverick?
The Ford Maverick camper comes with a mattress, so you’re encouraged to sleep in the back of the truck bed on the platform.
Because it’s a platform design, you’re not sleeping in the actual truck bed but on the raised surface of the camper itself.
Also, because of its functionality, you can stand in the truck bed and use the platform section as a desk. The modular floor has a removable section that creates a pass-through. Imagine the places you can go, work, and play with your Ford Maverick camper!
How Long Does It Take to Custom Order a Ford Maverick?
The shipping date is about three months out from the order date. So if you order sometime in February, your new Ford Maverick camper will likely ship sometime in May.
Currently, the Montana location is about a month ahead of the other four GFC locations.
