We love walking around campgrounds and looking at other people’s RVs. It’s so cool to see the innovation over the years, as well as the longevity of the older models. If you’ve walked around the campground recently, you might have noticed the Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite travel trailer.
This option from a well-known brand offers owners of lighter-duty vehicles the chance to have comfortable accommodations without the added weight. Let’s take a closer look at the Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite lineup!
Who Is Coachmen?
Coachmen RV is headquartered in Middlebury, Indiana. This area of Amish country in the Hoosier State is known as the “RV Capital of the World” because over 80% of America’s RVs are manufactured here.
Coachmen began in 1964 with a 5,000-square-foot facility and produced 12 travel trailers and one truck camper that first year. Today, the brand owns nearly 220 acres of facilities and has produced over 600,000 RVs.
Who Owns Coachmen?
While Coachmen RV began as an independent company in the 1960s, Forest River acquired the brand in 2008. Forest River, Inc. is one of the RV empires in the industry, owning multiple well-known brands. But even it is owned by yet another company: Berkshire Hathaway.
Warren Buffet’s company closed the Forest River, Inc. deal on August 31, 2005. However, Forest River still has subsidiaries like Coachmen RV, Dynamax, East to West, Shasta, Palomino, and Prime Time Manufacturing.
What Types Of RVs Does Coachmen Manufacture?
Coachmen RV produces tent campers, travel trailers, destination trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, and motorhomes. The motorhome lineup includes Class A, B, and C models. In some of our other articles, you can learn more about the various lines, such as the Coachmen Clipper travel trailer, Coachmen Chaparral fifth wheel, and the Coachmen Prism Class C motorhome.

A Breakdown of the Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite
The Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite travel trailer is one of the most lightweight options on the market for trailers longer than 25 feet. The floorplans include bunk beds, rear kitchens, spacious living spaces, and other innovative designs to appeal to various RVers. Let’s look at each model in more detail!
Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 215RBK
Length: 25 feet 6 inches
Width: 7 feet 5 inches
Weight: 6,500 pounds
Sleeps: up to four
Features: With over 2,100 pounds of cargo carrying capacity, the Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 215RBK offers a lot of wiggle room to tote around your camping gear. Even though it’s the shortest unit, it’s one of only two trailers that can safely handle this much weight.
The layout includes a front bedroom with a queen bed and side wardrobes, a booth dinette in a slide-out against the driver’s side, a full kitchen with all the appliances needed for an enjoyable camping weekend, and a rear bathroom. There’s also an outdoor kitchen, a 200-watt roof-mounted solar panel, and a 30-amp controller.
Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 245BHS
Length: 27 feet 7 inches
Width: 7 feet 5 inches
Weight: 6,500 pounds
Sleeps: up to eight
Features: The second 7.5-foot wide Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite travel trailer is the 245BHS. This unit has a similar layout as the 215RBK but has a set of bunk beds for additional sleeping space. The center with the booth dinette and kitchen and the front with the master bedroom are designed the same.
The bathroom is a bit smaller because of the bunk beds. But it still has everything you need, including an 8-cubic-foot 12-volt refrigerator, a 3-burner stovetop, a microwave, a stainless steel sink, an outdoor camp kitchen, a 200-watt roof-mounted solar panel, and a 30-amp controller.
Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 211RBS
Length: 26 feet 2 inches
Width: 8 feet
Weight: 7,000 pounds
Sleeps: up to four
Features: The first of the 8-foot wide trailers is the Coachment Apex Ultra Lite 211RBS. It features a unique floorplan with a large sofa in the driver’s side slide-out across from an L-shaped kitchen. There are bar stools and a raised bar for dining seating.
The rear has an entry closet and full bathroom, and the front has a queen bed with side wardrobes. There is no divider to separate the bed from the living space in this unit, however. It also comes with the 200-watt roof-mounted solar panel and 30-amp controller, as well as all the appliances and amenities of the previous two models.
Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 243FKS
Length: 29 feet 5 inches
Width: 8 feet
Weight: 7,600 pounds
Sleeps: up to six
Features: The Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 243FKS flips the bedroom and puts it in the rear. The bed is in a slide-out, which provides additional room for a wardrobe at the foot of the bed instead of the side wardrobes of the other models.
The bathroom is in the trailer’s center, and a large L-shaped kitchen is situated along the camp side wall and front wall for plenty of meal prep space.
This is one of the best options for someone who enjoys cooking while camping. This unit is also the first with both a sofa and dinette, which are positioned in a large slide-out against the driver’s side. The 243FKS also features an outdoor camp kitchen.
Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 251RBK
Length: 29 feet
Width: 8 feet
Weight: 7,000 pounds
Sleeps: up to six
Features: A larger version of the 215RBK is the 251RBK. It features an additional sofa for more lounge space. There’s still a rear bathroom, full kitchen, dinette, queen bedroom, side wardrobes, and outdoor kitchen.
If you occasionally have a child or friend who camps with you, this might be an ideal option because of the extra couch and the separation of the living space and the bedroom.
Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 256BHS
Length: 30 feet 1 inch
Width: 8 feet
Weight: 7,600 pounds
Sleeps: up to eight
Features: Another bunk model is the Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 256BHS. It’s about 2.5 feet longer and includes both a sofa and a dinette.
The kitchen is small and positioned against the wall that separates the living space from the bedroom. But you have more room for lounging and hanging out with the kids in this model.
There’s an outdoor camp kitchen and a rear storage compartment for your camping gear.
Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 264RKS
Length: TBD
Width: 8 feet
Weight: TBD
Sleeps: up to four
Features: A new model for 2024 is the Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 264RKS, which is why the exact numbers are still to be determined. This unit has a huge rear U-shaped kitchen.
We think this is the best option for RVers who like to entertain or host dinners. There’s a ton of countertops and overhead storage space. The center has a dinette, entrainment center, loveseat, and desk. The front bedroom also has an additional third wardrobe for plenty of storage.
Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 265RBSS
Length: 30 feet 5 inches
Width: 8 feet
Weight: 7,600 pounds
Sleeps: up to six
Features: If you like the rear bathroom and front bedroom layout, Coachmen has another option in the 265RBSS model. The center of this trailer has a sofa and a U-shaped dinette in a slide-out on the driver’s side.
The kitchen is also larger in this unit because of the overall increased length. The design of the 265RBSS provides more interior space for hanging out and moving about more easily.
Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 266BHS
Length: 32 feet 11 inches
Width: 8 feet
Weight: 7,600 pounds
Sleeps: up to ten
Features: A third bunk bed option is the Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 266BHS. This model is quite different from the previous two, however, because the bunk beds are positioned behind the sofa. The double over double bunks lie against the entire rear wall of the trailer.
A U-shaped dinette and the refrigerator are in a slide-out across from the full kitchen. This unit has a walk-through bathroom to enter the front bedroom. There’s also a second entry door into the bedroom.
Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 284BHSS
Length: 32 feet 7 inches
Width: 8 feet
Weight: 7,600 pounds
Sleeps: up to ten
Features: The longest bunk bed model with the corner bunks is the 284BHSS. This model is similar to the 256BHS and the 245BHS but offers more interior space. There’s a fireplace, entertainment center, and storage space across from the sofa and dinette.
The kitchen is still relatively small to the overall size of the trailer, but if you cook most of your meals outside, it should still suffice for an enjoyable weekend camping trip. The front bedroom is the standard design with a queen bed and side wardrobes.
Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 293RLDS
Length: 34 feet
Width: 8 feet
Weight: 7,800 pounds
Sleeps: up to six
Features: Another unique design among the Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite lineup is the 293RLDS model. It feels more like a fifth-wheel floorplan with a rear sofa, theater seating, a dinette, a kitchen island, and an entertainment center. There’s also a hutch for additional countertop and storage space.
If you don’t have a heavy-duty truck that can tow a fifth wheel and don’t want to pay more for a fifth wheel trailer, this model has many of the same features. There’s also a camp kitchen and tv to make the most of your outdoor space.
Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 300BHS
Length: 34 feet 5 inches
Width: 8 feet
Weight: 7,600 pounds
Sleeps: up to ten
Features: Finally, the largest bunk bed model features an actual bunk room in the rear. The Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite 300BHS is the longest trailer in this lineup. But the main living area feels small because of the space the bunk room consumes. There’s a futon with an overhead bunk across from an entertainment center that also has a bunk on top of it.
With the slide-out, there’s plenty of room for the kids to play and have their own space while camping. The center of the trailer has a small but adequate kitchen, a dinette, a sofa, and a bathroom. The front bedroom has the standard queen bed with side wardrobes. This unit also features an outdoor kitchen.
Who Is the Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite Travel Trailer Good For?
Because there are twelve floorplans in the Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite travel trailer line, RVers of all types might find a unit that suits their camping needs. A solo traveler or couple with a light-duty truck may prefer the 215RBK or 211RBS, while a family of six will find enough sleeping space for everyone in the 300BHS.
The Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite trailers range from 25 feet 6 inches to 34 feet 5 inches, a huge difference in size. But each of their weights remains under 8,000 pounds. While you may not need a heavy-duty truck to tow a 7,800-pound travel trailer, you might want at least a ½-ton to handle the length of the longer units.
Is Coachmen A Good Brand?
Coachmen has been in the RV industry for 60 years. It’s not an upper-tier brand producing luxury accommodations. But it’s one of the most common brands for weekend warriors who want a comfortable RV with the basic amenities. If you’re looking for a more full-time-ready RV, you’ll want to check out the Coachmen Brookstone fifth wheel or one of the larger motorhomes.
But if you’re in the market for a lightweight, simple travel trailer to get you into nature and enjoying the outdoors, the Coachmen Apex Ultra Lite lineup may be the perfect fit!
