Building a truck camper for a half-ton truck can prove difficult. With the smaller payload capacities, these trucks aren’t built to handle the heavy weight of most campers.

However, nuCamp has come up with a solution for half-ton truck owners: the Cirrus truck camper. The company also has a larger, heavier option to suit heavy-duty trucks.

So let’s dive in and take a closer look at these two Cirrus truck camper models and what they offer the weekend traveler.

Who Makes the Cirrus Truck Camper?

In 2004, Joe Mullet founded nuCamp and began making small trailers. Creating teardrop designs with European influences made this company extremely popular.

Located in Sugarcreek, Ohio, nuCamp has since added Cirrus truck campers to its lineup. Every trailer and truck camper has a kitchenette and sleeping area for an enjoyable and comfortable weekend camping adventure.

What Other Types of Campers Does NuCamp Make?

nuCamp manufactures four teardrop models. The Tag teardrop trailer has a 13-foot 7-inch length with a 6-foot 8-inch width. The Tag XL is the same model but features a larger width at 7-feet 8-inches.

The Tab teardrop trailer measures 15 feet 3 inches with a 6-foot 8-inch width. The Tab 400 model is nuCamp’s largest teardrop at 18 feet 3 inches with a 7-foot-6-inch width.

There’s also the Tab CS-S teardrop trailer that’s the same size as the Tab but with the kitchenette located in the rear hatch rather than inside the trailer.

Finally, nuCamp also makes the Barefoot travel trailer, a retro-chic, fiberglass unit. This stunning trailer measures 16 feet 7 inches in length and 6 feet 6 inches in width.

About the Cirrus Truck Camper

The 620 and 820 Cirrus truck camper units feature the European design with a sleeping area, a kitchenette, and a dinette that converts into a second sleeping area. Both models are hard-sided, non-slide truck campers.

The Cirrus 620 Truck Camper

The smaller of the two options, the Cirrus 620 truck camper is built for a half-ton truck.

It features everything you need but nothing you don’t. This no-frills design makes camping convenient and comfortable yet keeps the price under $50,000.

Specs

This camper measures 12 feet 8 inches long with a width of 8 feet 2 inches. The overall height measures 8 feet 2 inches while the interior height measures 6 feet 4 inches.

At 1,673 pounds, this camper is an ideal option for owners of half-ton trucks. Finally, the gray tank holds 12 gallons, the freshwater tank holds 17 gallons, and the black tank with the cassette toilet holds 5 gallons.

Floorplan

The front of the camper has a queen bed with a stargazing window. The booth dinette can also convert into a second sleeping space. The overhead storage in the kitchen/dining space provides plenty of cabinets for dishes, food items, gear, and other equipment.

The Cirrus 820 Truck Camper

The larger of the two options is the Cirrus 820 truck camper. Designed to fit a ¾-ton or a 1-ton short-bed truck, this Cirrus truck camper costs about $5,000 more than the 620 model and includes a full wet bath.

Specs

The Cirrus 820 truck camper is 17 feet 5 inches long with a width of 8 feet 3 inches. The overall height is 9 feet 8 inches while the interior height is 6 feet 6 inches. At 3,045 pounds, the 820 weighs almost double what the 620 unit weighs, which is why it’s built for larger trucks.

Finally, the gray tank holds 32 gallons, the freshwater tank holds 33 gallons, and the black tank holds 18 gallons. This camper is ready for off-grid camping with these large tank capacities.
