Did you know that even your choice of toilet paper could lead to costly RV repairs? Using Camco RV toilet paper may not be cheap, but it’ll save you down the road. Let’s take a look!
What Is Camco RV Toilet Paper
Camco RV toilet paper helps prevent damage to an RV’s plumbing system. The toilet paper begins breaking down the moment it makes contact with water. This helps eliminate the chance of clogs in the plumbing system.
While other competitors sacrifice thickness to achieve a faster breakdown process, Camco doesn’t. Camco’s RV toilet paper contains no added dyes or perfumes. It’s available at many stores that sell camping gear and other RV accessories.
Benefits of Camco RV Toilet Paper
Choosing Camco’s RV toilet paper for your RV can help you keep your systems running smoothly. Here are a few of the benefits we love about it!
Dissolves Quickly
By dissolving quickly, this toilet paper helps prevent clogs in RV black tanks. The instant that this paper comes in contact with liquid, it starts to break down. Other papers must be fully saturated or sit for extended periods.
Too many solids generally cause clogs in RV black tanks. One of the leading causes of clogs is toilet paper not breaking down. When toilet paper fails to disintegrate, it clumps together and can’t pass through the valve when you dump the tank. Unclogging an RV black tank is no fun. You want to make sure you have a rapid dissolving toilet paper like this Camco RV toilet paper.
Specifically Made for RVs, Buses, and Boats
This product is marketed for RVs but can be used for buses and boats as well. All of these vehicles share similar plumbing systems and require rapid dissolving toilet paper. When you choose Camco RV toilet paper, you’ll know that your sewer tanks will stay clear of clogs.
- Designed for use in RV and marine sanitation systems
- Clog resistant
Cons
This paper is excellent for keeping your tanks clear, but it can be a little tricky to find. Keep that in mind if you’re planning to stock up for a trip.
Not Available Everywhere
This isn’t a product that’s flying off the shelves, except by RVers. Because this isn’t a popular product outside of the RVing community, there aren’t many local stores that stock it. Luckily, most Walmarts have begun carrying it if you have one in your area.
Other than Walmart, purchasing online can often be the best bet, but you’ll have to wait on shipping. You don’t want to be on your last roll of RV-safe toilet paper and hoping for a timely delivery. You’ll have to plan ahead when you stock up with this paper.
Alternatives to Camco RV Toilet Paper
Camco isn’t the only RV toilet paper on the market. Let’s look at a few of their toughest competitors.
Scott Rapid Dissolve RV Toilet Paper
- 48 Double Rolls of Scott Rapid-Dissolving Toilet Paper (6 packs of 8), 1-ply, 231 sheets per roll; toilet paper that's...
- Scott Rapid Dissolving toilet tissue is the #1 choice made for RVs and boats
Scott also makes a rapid dissolve toilet paper specifically designed for RVs. Like Camco’s RV toilet paper, you’ll have trouble finding this product in many brick and mortar stores except Walmart, but it’s widely available online.
This RV toilet paper will also break down quickly in your RV’s black tank. Scott’s Rapid Dissolve RV Toilet Paper is a little on the thin side as it’s only one-ply. However, Scott uses sustainably sourced paper for their product.
Any Toilet Paper Labeled “Septic Safe”
Did you know you might be able to use the same toilet paper in your house and RV? Any toilet paper labeled “Septic Safe” should be safe for your RV plumbing.
Many individuals are already purchasing and using toilet paper for their septic systems and won’t have to make any adjustments. You may just get lucky and be able to keep using the same toilet paper and not have to make any adjustments.
Any Toilet Paper if You Don’t Flush It
Technically, you can use any toilet paper you wish, even if it’s not rated as septic or RV safe.
To do this, you simply don’t put toilet paper in your RV black tank. This method will require a waste bin to store the used toilet paper, and you’ll want to empty the bin frequently.
If you’re picky about your toilet paper, this could be an option for you.
Is Camco RV Toilet Paper Worth It?
While Camco makes a terrific RV toilet paper that does a great job, you’ll be flushing money down the toilet. Several cheaper options are more readily available, like Charmin Soft. You can easily find this at your local big-box retailer, which will most likely have an ample supply.
If you’re anything like us, you’d rather spend your money on other RV items or adventures. As long as you test your toilet paper to make sure it’s safe, don’t waste money for a label stamped on the packaging.
Camco’s RV Toilet Paper does a great job but comes with a premium price. Would you pay a higher price for toilet paper? Or do you prefer to use toilet paper that’s cheaper?

I’m commenting on the TP issue as I’m planning to go, full-time, used class A motorhome RVing. I’m a senior and since I have not been an RVer I’m trying to learn as much as I can before my purchase. So I’m reading blogs and many RVer’s comments on various sites etc. on just about everything concerning RVs and RV living. My comment is about what others are saying about the TP issue in blackwater tanks. What I have found is that the opinions are mostly all over the place as to the TP dissolving/breakdown issue. I started concerned as being old and with a few medical issues with “going”, many times I have to use more and a stronger TP than I would like to or what a normal middle-aged person might use. In my search/investigation of TP, I have found that it seems that the dissolving question is overblown, and if a person after each dumping and a rinse of the blackwater tank uses a good liquid deodorizer/dissolvent and a gallon or two of clean water in the tank the issue of TP dissolving and clogging causing a problem goes away. In some cases, some say it is not a problem with most septic save TP on the market even Charmin Ultra which I use. But I could be wrong. Just my opinion, of which everyone has one! 🙂
