Who Is Coachmen?
Coachmen RV has been serving customers since 1964. During its first year, the company produced 12 travel trailers and one truck camper at its 5,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Middlebury, Indiana. Since then, Coachmen has grown into a leading manufacturer of all types of RVs, with hundreds of thousands of products that have rolled off the assembly line.
Who Owns Coachmen?
In 2008, Forest River, Inc. purchased the Coachmen RV brand. This RV empire was founded by Peter Liegl in 1996. Over the years, Forest River has acquired other brands, including Dynamax, Shasta, Palomino, and Prime Time Manufacturing. This family of brands has made Forest River the second-largest RV supplier in the nation, just behind Thor Industries.
What Types Of RVs Does Coachmen Manufacture?
While Coachmen began as an RV manufacturer of travel trailers, the brand now also produces tent campers, destination trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, and motorhomes. In the past, we’ve shared the features of the Coachmen Clipper, a lightweight travel trailer that allows owners of SUVs and lighter-duty trucks to tow a camper safely. We’ve also shared about the Coachmen Chaparral, the company’s flagship fifth wheel known for its spacious design.
The Coachmen Encore made our list of best motorhomes for a family of six, and the Coachmen Leprechaun made our list of best motorhomes for a family of four. As you can see, this RV manufacturer is versatile, producing various options to suit the needs of all types of travelers.
A Breakdown of the Coachmen Apex Nano
The Coachmen Apex Nano is one of the brand’s 17 travel trailer lines. It’s designed for towing with half-ton trucks, minivans, and SUVs. The Apex Nano is ideal for weekend warriors who want a comfortable trailer to enjoy a camping trip but don’t want to spend more money on an upgraded vehicle. Let’s look at each of the nine floorplans in more detail!
Coachmen Apex Nano 185BH
Length: 20 feet 7 inches
Weight: 4,700 pounds
Cargo Carrying Capacity: 1,294 pounds
Sleeps: up to five
Features: The Coachmen Apex Nano 185BH is the smallest unit and the only one under 21 feet long. But it offers a set of bunk beds in the rear to provide separate sleeping space for a family of four. There’s a small full bathroom next to the bunks, a booth dinette across from a full kitchen, and a queen bed in the front of the unit.
There are no slides, which means you don’t have to worry about malfunctions, but you also don’t have the increased interior space. There’s also no separation between the bed and the living space. However, if you’re looking for an upgrade from a tent, the Coachmen Apex Nano 185BH provides all the basics for a comfortable weekend family camping trip.
Coachmen Apex Nano 186BH
Length: 22 feet 11 inches
Weight: 4,700 pounds
Cargo Carrying Capacity: 1,074 pounds
Sleeps: up to seven
Features: A slightly larger bunk bed option is the Coachmen Apex Nano 186BH. These bunks are double over double, which can sleep two smaller kids each. This model also has an outdoor camp kitchen and a larger bathroom.
Another significant difference is that the 186BH has a Murphy bed in the front. There’s still no separation between the bed and living space, but adding a sofa provides more seating space for a family. The booth dinette and kitchen are similar to the 185BH.
Coachmen Apex Nano 187RB
Length: 21 feet 5 inches
Weight: 4,700 pounds
Cargo Carrying Capacity: 1,342 pounds
Sleeps: up to three
Features: The Coachmen Apex Nano 187RB features a queen bed in the front, a booth dinette, a full kitchen, and a bathroom in the rear. Like the previous two models, the 187RB has no slide-outs. However, we do like the added storage in this unit, with the wardrobe in the bathroom and pantry in the kitchen. You have plenty of space and the basic amenities for a comfortable weekend camping trip.
Coachmen Apex Nano 191RBS
Length: 21 feet 11 inches
Weight: 4,700 pounds
Cargo Carrying Capacity: 1,234 pounds
Sleeps: up to three
Features: The Coachmen Apex Nano 191RBS has one slide-out with the dinette. This increased interior area makes this until feel more spacious than the previous models. The rest of the floorplan is similar to the other Apex Nano trailers with the front queen bed, full kitchen against the campside wall, and bathroom in the rear.
This unit has a wardrobe and pantry like the 187RB. But like the others, the 191RBS doesn’t have any separation between the bed and living space.
Coachmen Apex Nano 194BHS
Length: 22 feet 8 inches
Weight: 4,800 pounds
Cargo Carrying Capacity: 1,166 pounds
Sleeps: up to five
Features: Another bunk bed option is the Coachmen Apex Nano 194BHS. This unit also has a slide-out with a dinette. The bunks are the standard size, not the double over double. The front bedroom features a north-to-south bed instead of an east-to-west bed that has been in all the other models up to this point. Because of this design, there are no side wardrobes, which means much less storage space near the bed. However, this model features an outdoor camp kitchen like the 186BH.
Coachmen Apex Nano 203RBK
Length: 23 feet 5 inches
Weight: 6,000 pounds
Cargo Carrying Capacity: 2,084 pounds
Sleeps: up to three
Features: The Coachmen Apex Nano 203RBK is similar to the 191RBS unit, with the dinette in a slide-out across from the kitchen, the front queen bed, and the rear bathroom. But this option is a bit more spacious and features an outdoor camp kitchen. The 203RBK also offers a Murphy bed option for an additional seating area.
Coachmen Apex Nano 208BHS
Length: 25 feet
Weight: 6,000 pounds
Cargo Carrying Capacity: 1,740 pounds
Sleeps: up to seven
Features: Another double-over-double bunk option is the Coachmen Apex Nano 208BHS. It’s the longest bunk bed model in the Apex Nano lineup. Like the 203RBK, you can replace the queen bed with a Murphy bed. It also features a corner rear bathroom, a dinette in a slide-out, and an outdoor camp kitchen. This is one of the most spacious Apex Nano trailers.
Coachmen Apex Nano 213RDS
Length: 25 feet 1 inch
Weight: 6,000 pounds
Cargo Carrying Capacity: 2,174 pounds
Sleeps: up to five
Features: The Coachmen Apex Nano 213RDS is one of the more unique layouts with a rear U-shaped dinette. There’s a slide-out with a sofa across from a spacious kitchen. The bathroom is in the center of the unit and provides a hallway to the front bedroom. While the queen bed and side wardrobes are similar to other units, this bedroom feels more private because of the kitchen and bathroom walls.
Coachmen Apex Nano 221RLS
Length: TBD
Weight: TBD
Cargo Carrying Capacity: TBD
Sleeps: up to three
Features: Finally, a brand new 2024 floorplan is the Coachmen Apex Nano 221RLS. It’s designed similarly to the 213RDS but flip-flops the seating. The dinette is in a slide-out, and theater seating is situated along the rear wall. The kitchen, bathroom, and front bedroom resemble the 213RDS model.
Who Is the Coachmen Apex Nano Travel Trailer Good For?
The Coachmen Apex Nano lineup is designed for campers who want to enjoy weekends at a local campground. These basic travel trailers don’t offer high-end amenities but just necessities for a comfortable and enjoyable weekend.
These units are also designed with the smaller vehicle in mind. SUV, minivan, and light-duty truck owners can still enjoy the comforts of a travel trailer since the Apex Nano trailers are under 6,000 pounds.
Enjoy Camping This Season With the Compact, Lightweight Coachmen Apex Nano
Even though you don’t have a lot of interior space in the Coachmen Apex Nano travel trailers, you don’t go camping to stay inside.
