The appeal of small travel trailers has dramatically increased over the past few years. Manufacturers are introducing new and innovative designs that pack lots of features into a smaller, more compact trailer. These options are becoming very enticing for those looking to enter the world of camping for the first time or perhaps those downsizing after their kids have gotten older.

A small camper is not for everyone. If you have a large family, then you will need the extra room and sleeping space provided by a larger rig. If you decide you can’t travel without a large-screen TV and theater seating, then these small travel trailers will not be a good fit.

However, if you like the idea of going camping without the need to purchase a large truck and tow a large trailer around, then these small trailers will be right up your alley.

Most of these units can be towed with an SUV or car with towing capacity, and some of them can even be stored in your home garage. You can easily maneuver these trailers into the tightest of camping spots, making those in the larger trailers jealous of the places you can go.

There are many options available on the market today, but they are not all created equal. Do your research, explore your options, and you can find a small travel trailer that meets your needs and does not skimp on comfort or features. Here are the top 6 small travel trailers that you should consider:

There is plenty of storage space built into this camper as well as LED lighting, both outside and in. While this unit is not equipped with an air conditioner, it does come with a 14” dual airflow ceiling fan for plenty of ventilation on those warm nights. You will also have no problem charging your devices on your trip using either the AC or DC power outlets provided.

One of the unique features of the Happier Camper is the Adaptiv™ modular interior. You can easily switch out the interior modules to provide different setups based on your current needs. Whether you need sleeping space for five, more countertops with kitchen and dinette, or a mobile office, snap the modular cubes into place, and it’s like you have a whole new space! There is nothing else quite like it, and this makes the Happier Camper one of the most versatile choices available.

Safari Condo Alto

The Safari Condo Alto is a classic teardrop design featuring a unique retractable roof. This allows for easy storage and towing but provides much more room when you set up camp and expand the roof.

These trailers were designed to be very lightweight and produce the lowest possible drag when traveling. The Alto creates 75% less drag than a standard travel trailer. This allows them to be towed with smaller vehicles, thereby reducing emissions and helping the environment.

These small trailers are surprisingly roomy on the inside. Some models are available with a king-sized bed and a dining area that is available even while the bed is set up. The Alto models are also available with an interior shower and toilet.

Not only does the retractable roof make for impressive aerodynamics, it dramatically increases the interior room of the unit. When open, there is a full 82” of interior clearance. This makes the unit feel spacious even to those individuals who are over 6 feet tall. When the roof is retracted, many of the features inside the camper are still usable such as the bed, storage, refrigerator, and toilet.

If you don’t like the idea of the retractable roof, Safari also makes other models with a fixed roof.
